What is Brent’s History and how reliable are they?
Brent has been in business for over 61 years. Our commitment to our customers accompanied with the longstanding relationships we have with many industries is a true test to our reliability and outstanding workmanship.

Is there a charge for on-site visits and estimates?
There is no charge for this service.

What is the standard turnaround time for a standard quotation?
A quote can be generated in a little as half an hour with a maximum time of 24 hours.

When do I need to use specialized packaging?
Special packaging is usually required when the product is considered high value and cannot be replaced right away. Based on transportation the packaging method will be determined by our staff.

Are their regulatory requirements governing the use of specialized packaging?
Military, Nuclear, Mining industry have regulatory standards, these specs are defined in the customer contracts and implemented into our procedures. Ocean and Air shipment usually have size and weight restrictions depending on the airline or sea vessel.

What types of specialized packaging does Brent offer?
Brent offers Break Bulk Crating, Custom Crating, Custom Skids, Supply, Re-Sale Products, On Site Packaging, Dangerous Good Packaging.

What types of goods require specialized packaging?
All goods require special packaging. Goods such as Control Panels, Circuit Boards, Pressure Tubes, Connectors, Gears, Drilling Machines and Mining Equipment. The product is very important to Brent as it is our responsibility to make sure it arrives at its final destination in the same condition it was received.

Specialized wood for certain goods? Or for specific countries?
Usually the wood materials used are the most common factor. All of Brent lumber supplies are HT-KD and has to comply with our ISO procedures. The specific countries listed under our IPPC-ISPM 15 Implementation vary worldwide from South America, Africa to Europe.

What types of materials used for specialized packaging?
Types of materials used for preservation are Mil-B-131, Cortec, Desiccant, Tectyl Oil Based, Bubble Wrap, Poly Wrap, Tar Paper and Humidity indicator plugs.

What is break bulk?
Break bulk is freight that cannot be loaded into any ocean container or too large for air cargo. Therefore this type of package can only be carried by a truck (ground) or ocean flat-rack which both will require wide load permits to haul.

What are the methods employed for break bulk?
Break Bulk freight is crated the same way as any other crate but the weight will determine the type of method used for the structure.

Is there special handling equipment used for break bulk?
Typically if the weight is heavy then over-head crane will be used to maneuver onto transport vehicle, if the weight is light enough then a standard forklift can be operated. Brent has a network of Riggers, Freight Forwarders that work together with us to get the impossible jobs done.

What are the different packaging methods available on-site?
Brent can offer Containerizing, Crating, Packaging, Skidding, Heat Shrinking and Loading almost any equipment with the right tools.

What types of goods can be packaged on site?
Brent is well experienced with on site packaging such as company re-locations, company shut-downs. With appropriate planning Brent is capable of packaging any type of machinery or products available.

What are the benefits of packaging on site?
Packaging on site is designed to save the customer money, time and freight cost and any additional unexpected expenses.

How are goods inspected and packaged on site?
Customers tend to inspect their own goods before packaging commences. The final product is looked at once completed by the customer or the buyer for approval.

Are Brent employee’s gone through any specialized training for packaging on site?
Brent employees are trained and educated to the fullest extent when it comes to health and safety. Workers have taken courses in due negligence, preventative actions, safety awareness programs, WHIMIS, First Aid, and handling and operating industrial equipments off and on site.

What is export crating and packaging?
Export crating and packaging are types of methods that allow for shipments to be carried overseas or cross-border whether it’s by ground transportation, ocean vessel or air airplane.

Are there export crating requirements for each country?
Each country has their own requirements that must be followed to avoid rejection at government customs. These regulations and procedures are usually provided by the seller, buyer or ultimate consignee.

What is ISPM-15?
With Brent being ISO registered our materials, procedures and rules allow us to ship anywhere around the globe without any hassle, hold-ups or rejections. Our lumber is purchased from the mills were each piece is treated to a core temperature for bugs/insects or unwanted species.

What are Dangerous goods?
Dangerous goods, also called hazardous materials or HazMat ("HazMat teams" are personnel specially trained to handle dangerous goods), aresolids, liquids, or gases that can harm people, other living organisms, property, or the environment. They are often subject to chemical regulations. Dangerous goods include materials that are radioactive, flammable, explosive, corrosive, oxidizing, asphyxiating, biohazardous, toxic, pathogenic, orallergenic. Also included are physical conditions such as compressed gases and liquids or hot materials, including all goods containing such materials or chemicals, or may have other characteristics that render them hazardous in specific circumstances.

How are dangerous goods packaged?
The United Nations have established a universal system for the classification, packaging, marking and labeling of dangerous goods to facilitate their safe transport. National and international regulations governing road, rail, sea and air transport are all based on the UN system. Under the regulations, packaging must meet or exceed minimum standards of performance before it can be authorized for the carriage of dangerous goods.

What are the laws governing the transportation of dangerous goods in North America?
The transportation of dangerous goods by air to, from and within Canada is subject to the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations (TDGR) Part 12 – Air, and the International Civil Aviation Organization Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air (ICAO TIs)

Are there weight restrictions for the transportation of dangerous goods?
Yes. Shipment cannot be over 500kg in total. Each container must not be over 30kg each.
